athenahealth is providing insight into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and healthcare organizations' responses to it by tracking trends in clinician activity and patient health across our nationwide network of outpatient clinicians. This map displays information about COVID-19 lab tests ordered through athenahealth’s ambulatory EHR platform every week from March 2020 through March 2021. Use the interactive graphic above to take a closer look at each state’s COVID-19 lab orders and results, and check back weekly for updated data.

As of July 13, 2020, the map was updated to display the percent of positive test results by race and ethnicity, revealing which patient populations have been more likely to contract COVID-19 in each state.

Our methodology: Using electronic health record (EHR) data at the state and national level, this dashboard reports on COVID-19 lab tests ordered through the athenaOne EHR around the country, including the percentage of those tests that return with a positive result.
